International Expressive Arts Spring Symposium 2019 in Wexford, Ireland

A warm Irish welcome to you

Following a successful International Expressive Arts Spring Symposium in 2016 in Kilkenny Ireland, the Expressive Arts Ireland team were asked to host the next symposium in 2019.

The theme of the next Spring Symposium is:
Song of the Sea - Longing for Belonging.

The emerald Isle of Ireland is surrounded by a magnificent sea. The symposium will be held in the Ferrycarrig Hotel, situated at the mouth of the river Slaney as it joins the Irish Sea and the great ocean. We will be surrounded by beautiful nature and will only be a 10 minute drive from Wexford Town.

It is very easy for people arriving from abroad to access. Direct transportation by bus or train is available. Information on the Wexford page.

Ireland is an island filled with song, music, dance and storytelling, the arts have always had a centre stage here. For many years the people of Ireland sailed across the ocean and emigrated to find a better life as Ireland was suffering from famine, poverty and harsh occupation (colonisation). The emigrants had to go through hard times and had a longing to belong. To this very day people are emigrating from over the world, often at risk to their lives as they make the hard, and for some, complicated journey.

Longing for belonging is a human quest that many of us share even if we have never emigrated. Longing and belonging are emotional qualities and interconnected, as we find we need to lay down the longing to celebrate the belonging. To surrender to what it is like to belong, to love. To belong I participate, so that I don’t say I can’t. I let myself have a shift - a lived experience of the shift.

Come with us and explore our longing for belonging in the next Symposium through the arts. Be a part of a supportive community where, over five days of inspiration, connection, immersion in Irish and global international culture we can open to the new and surprising through the Expressive Arts Method.

Our guests of honour, founders of the European Graduate School EGS, Switzerland, Professors Paolo J Knill and Margo Fuchs Knill will join us.

There will be 8 international Expressive Arts teachers facilitating 4 different workshops in pairs through the intermodal arts. Each teacher brings their unique artistic work and approach. Each participant will be part of a core group and together they will travel through all 4 workshops. Additional information on the Programme Page.
