Advanced Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Expressive Arts Therapy, Consulting, Education and Social Change (CAGS)

Prof. em. Dr. h.c. Paolo J. Knill, Ph.D. Provost of the European Graduate School

The curriculum is divided into summer residencies at the EGS campus, field-studies and internships during the year. There are two Intensive Master Courses (IMC 1 and IMC 2) on campus, offered during the Summer Schools. In the interim periods (fall, winter and spring), students will undertake their field study projects and internships under the guidance of approved master teachers and supervisors.

There are three options for participation in the program:

  • towards a certificate as an Expressive Arts Trainer CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Post-Graduate Studies),
  • towards a qualification for Doctoral Studies,
  • as a Continuing Education Project.

For the Certificate, all parts of the curriculum must be taken and passed with a satisfactory evaluation. In addition, there is a lecture project requirement, that must be completed for the final qualification. As a Continuing Education Project, the two summer courses (IMC 1 and IMC 2) can be taken as a package with a special tuition rate.

The two summer courses IMC 1 and IMC 2 are offered in an intensive format by Paolo J. Knill and Stephen K. Levine, together with master teachers who helped to define Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy.

The schedule of three weeks duration includes four weekends. The seminars take place at the EGS campus in the Canton of Valais in Switzerland. They are scheduled parallel to the graduate level Summer Schools. This allows students to participate in the community events and meet the teachers and Artists-in-Residence.
