EXA-CT Curriculum Overview
The Expressive Arts in Conflict Transformation & Peacebuilding (EXA-CT) is a 120 credit (European Credit Transfer System) Masters Degree that conforms to Bologna Educational Treaty requirements. This is equivalent to a 60 credit MA Program in the United States. The EXA-CT program consists of the following six modules:
- CT- 1 Focus on Intermodal Expressive Arts (Full Residency – 21 days, or Partial Residency – 11 days, or Alternative Site coursework at an approved partner institution)
- CT- 2 Philosophical & Aesthetic Foundations (Full Residency, 21 days)
- CT- 3 Praxis: Internship (Field Based)
- CT- 4 Methods & Interdisciplinary Approach (Full Residency, 21 days)
- CT- 5 Research & Thesis (Alternative Site, 9 days)
- CT- 6 Final Examination (Full Residency, 18 days )
The recommended sequence for the modules is as above. However the student may interchange the order of modules except Module CT-6. In cases where a student cannot finish the written thesis before the third summer school, the student may still attend the summer school and the graduation ceremony with her or his graduating group. The student however, will be required to pay a maintaining fee during the period of completion of the thesis. Students have seven years to complete the MA.
Full Residency modules are only offered at the EGS campus in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. Alternative Site means that the coursework requirement can be fulfilled with an EGS approved provider. The EGS approved providers for these modules will be posted within the module descriptions on the website. Partial Residency means that the module’s courses can be taken through an alternative provider as long as the coursework is documented and reviewed through an eleven day workshop at EGS in Saas-Fee: the Advanced Standing Assessment and Individualized Study Service (ASIS) process. Post-graduate Expressive Arts Therapy work from a university will be reviewed and can also be accepted for transfer credits for Module CT-1.
