Appendix: Evaluation of Students
EGS requires that evaluation of students be done in a proper and timely manner.
In order to provide feedback to assist each student's learning and to enable faculty to assess the student's progress, a process of evaluation of students by faculty, using qualitative criteria, will take place during each Summer School period.
The following are the criteria which will be used for the evaluation of students:
- Participation - Participation includes class attendance and a demonstration of a committed presence in the experiential as well as the discursive parts of the seminars.
- Contribution to the Group Process - To enhance the collaborative learning in the group, we expect contributions that enrich interactional experience as well as observational and reflective capacities. Such contributions include the ability to handle conflict with insight into one's own personal behavior.
- Expressive Arts Competencies - Emphasis will be placed on the commitment of students to express themselves verbally and artistically, and to respond and give appropriate feedback to the work of their peers, within the classroom setting.
- Theoretical Competencies - Theoretical competencies will be demonstrated within the classroom setting by participation in discourse in a way that demonstrates an understanding of the philosophical and theoretical frameworks required for the theme of the seminar. If a written project is required, we expect the writing to be clear and the content to show a capacity for exploratory and critical thinking.
Faculty members will present in class the criteria and evaluation system used in terms of the expectations listed above. It is the student's responsibility to meet these requirements and to ask for clarification where necessary.
Teachers record the numerical equivalent of the evaluations, i.e.,
- good=1
- satisfactory=2
- unsatisfactory=3
in the Testat booklet.
Teachers will inform students of unsatisfactory work and the requirements for remediation, in consultation with the core group leader.
