Independent Study toward the Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy!

The European Graduate School (EGS) has an independent study option for applicants who have not trained at an EGS affiliate institute. This option is available to transfer students from other universities which offer expressive arts training and to graduates or current students of non-affiliated creative arts therapy institutes located in an area in which EGS-affiliated training institutes are not accessible (Independent Study I). The option is also available to individuals who, because of geographical or other constraints, are unable to engage in an institute training (Independent Study II).

Both applicants from non-affiliated institutes (track I) and non-institute applicants (track II) need to fulfill the following requirements to be admitted to EGS:

  1. Potential students must be interviewed by the Dean of Independent Studies or a representative of the Dean. This interview can also be conducted by telephone in cases where no face-to-face meeting is possible.
  2. In addition to the normal application form and payment of 300 CHF application fee, independent study applicants will need to submit a detailed curriculum vita and/or portfolio to establish their readiness for admission. These documents will be reviewed by the Dean of Independent Studies to determine what, if any, additional requirements will be necessary.
  3. Applicants will be required to take an introduction course in intermodal expressive arts therapy.
  4. A critical review of the literature in the field of expressive arts therapy will be required from each applicant.
  5. Further information on requirements #3 and #4 will be given to students after the application is approved.
  6. Applicants must attend the first summer school on a non-credit basis before they are admitted formally into the program. After successful completion of all of the above requirements and the summer school, applicants will be formally admitted into the Independent Study Program. During the summer school session, students will meet with the Dean and a review of the student’s file will be conducted.
