The Arts, Health and Society Division at the European Graduate School EGS in Saas-Fee, Switzerland invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Program Director for the new Masters program:


Expressive Arts in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding


Building on the established innovative teaching and learning environment at EGS, the Director will be responsible for developing and managing a new Masters Level Program in Expressive Arts and Conflict Transformation. This position will involve curriculum development, hiring of faculty, international networking to establish study/field work partnerships and research opportunities for students, and developing educational strategies and policies for successfully attracting an international student body. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in the context of worldwide conflict and crisis situations.

The Director of the MA Program will be offered a faculty appointment in the Division and is expected to teach one or more core subjects in the MA Program. As Director of the MA Program she or he will collaborate closely with the Director of the International Centre for Arts in Peacebuilding to develop collaborative initiatives between academic institutions, international NGO’s, and foundations.

Required Qualifications and Competencies:

  • A Ph.D. Degree (or Ph.D. candidate) in a relevant discipline of arts, conflict transformation and/or peacebuilding and at least five years of senior experience in leadership in an academic research context, public sector, or a non-governmental organization. Teaching and supervisory experience at the graduate level is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in developing and managing complex intercultural and multidisciplinary teams in relevant fields.
  • A broad understanding of integrating Expressive Arts in diverse social and cultural contexts.
  • Strong track record in professional and public education activities and publications. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build international networks and partnerships across disciplines.
  • Excellent decision making skills and conflict resolution abilities in diverse contexts.
  • Experience in managing innovative research initiatives and administrative budgets.

The European Graduate School EGS is located in Saas-Fee, Switzerland and offers four residency sessions for students in the summer period, complemented with field work and thesis supervision during the remainder of the academic year. EGS offers curricula in the field of Expressive Arts Therapy, Coaching and Education, and in the field of Media and Communication, all leading to the degrees of M.A., CAGS and Ph.D. Curricula, degrees and EGS as a university-level institution have been accredited by the Swiss Canton of Wallis since 2002. EGS is a private non-profit and tax-exempt institution and is recognized by the U.S. Government to participate as a Foreign School in the U.S. Federal Student Loan Program.
