CLOWN WORKSHOP IN BARCELONA
Organized by the Expressive Arts Master Program in ISPA
Something out of Nothing: The Clown as the Holy Fool of this Earth
Ellen and Stephen Levine
A clown is born. Where does she come from? No one knows. Suddenly there is presence, innocence and joy. She wanders the world, always in trouble, always finding her way. Her friends come with her, making things worse and then miraculously saving each other from disaster. Truly these clowns are holy fools.
In this workshop, we will help participants allow their clowns to emerge from nothing, from just being present. We will play together and make fools of ourselves if at all possible. Play is a fundamental way to be in the world with others. The spirit of the clown can come into our work as educators, therapists and artists.
Bring hats and costumes to share. Noses will be provided for all.
Ellen and Stephen Levine are leaders in the field of the expressive arts in therapy, education and social change. They are Professors at the European Graduate School in Switzerland and are the authors of several books, including, with Paolo Knill, Principles and Practice of Expressive Arts Therapy: Toward a Therapeutic Aesthetics. Ellen and Steve have taught clown in North America, Europe and the Middle East and perform together as “Max and Sadie.”
