On tuesday, 19th of July, 08.30pm at the EGS Campus Steinmatte Prof Dr. Michael Siegell gives a hindustani music sitar concert.

Michael Siegell, Ph.D. is an accomplished and versatile sitarist and one of the few westerners to train seriously in North Indian classical music. He has been studying the sitar since the 1970’s both in the U.S. and in India and has trained with Pandit Bhaskar Chandavarkar, one of the earliest and most respected disciples of the legendary maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar and Dr. Peter Row, disciple of Pandit Gokul Nag of the Vishnapur instrumental tradition.

Michael was awarded a Senior Fellowship by the American Institute of Indian Studies-Smithsonian Institution to complete his Doctorate and continue his music training and research in India (1985-86). He has accompanied many of India’s greatest masters of classical music in concert, including Ali Akbar Khan, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Alla Rakha, Zakir Hussain and twice has been honored to accompany Pandit Ravi Shankar at Symphony Hall, Boston. He has performed at prestigious venues in the U.S. and India, including Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard University, M.I.T, Phillips Academy, SUNY Albany and many others.

Michael Siegell is a Professor of Psychology and Director of the undergraduate Psychology Program at Cambridge College. His areas of specialization are in the psychology of the arts and the expressive art therapies.
