Hubertus von Amelunxen


Provost and president of EGS and professor at the Division of Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought. Von Amelunxen is the former President of the University of Art in Braunschweig, a position he was elected to in 2010. Prior to his presidency, he was he rector of the Ecole supérieure européenne de l’image in Angouleme/Poitiers, France and a founding director of the International School of New Media in Lubeck, Germany. Von Amelunxen also served as the Senior Curator of the CCA Centre Canadien d’Architecture in Montreal, Canada and was a Visiting Professor at the University of California in Santa Cruz, US. In 2003 he was elected a member of the Akademie der Kunste in Berlin. Hubertus von Amelunxen has published and curated extensively in the field of photography, literature and art and is a member of the Academy of Arts Berlin since 2003. He studied French and German Literature and Art History at the universities of Marburg and Paris and holds a Ph.D. in French Literature from the University of Mannheim. “EGS offers at once one of the most ancient and one of the most progressive contents to the student/teacher relationship in that it is an exquisitely demanding environment, in which minds are challenged to cross intellectual and philosophical borders and encounters may lead to lifelong bonds based on unwavering commitment and a belief in the constructive potential of change. The role of Provost therefore is a dual one; the custodian and the ambassador meet in this position. It is with great dedication, boundless energy and a clear vision that I accept both.”
